Delhi’s Ranji Trophy campaign may be struggling, but head coach Vijay Dahiya is already looking ahead to the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which starts December 14. Dahiya expressed his strong desire to have Virat Kohli join the team for the tournament.
Dahiya stated that if Kohli wishes to play, he would be welcomed, emphasizing the value of Kohli’s experience and work ethic for the younger players. He believes Kohli, having come through the same ranks, could serve as a mentor and share insights on achieving success at the highest level.
The coach indicated that Kohli is available for selection, noting that players who participated last year are generally considered available without needing a formal announcement. Dahiya also mentioned that Kohli is currently working hard and bowling well, making him a viable option for white-ball cricket.
Batting has been a weakness for Delhi, and Dahiya hopes Kohli’s presence could provide more than just runs, potentially influencing how players approach challenges on the field. He recalled a conversation where a young player asked how Kohli would approach a difficult chase, highlighting the impact of Kohli’s mindset.
