A municipal official in Gujarat’s Vadodara district has been suspended for six days due to the failure of 12 streetlights along a route used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Several other lights on the same stretch were reportedly flickering.
The official, Mahesh Vasava, the in-charge clerk of the lighting department at Dabhoi Municipality, was suspended for alleged negligence in maintaining the streetlights. According to the suspension order, the municipality had assigned responsibilities for cleanliness, stray cattle control, and streetlight maintenance in anticipation of VIP movement.
Vasava’s duties included ensuring the streetlights were functioning properly. The order stated that despite instructions from the municipality, he allegedly failed to ensure necessary repairs were completed in a timely manner. The action was taken under Section 48 of the Gujarat Municipalities Act, 1963.
The Prime Minister was traveling by road to Vadodara airport on October 31 after attending an event. The suspension order also directed Vasava to appear before a competent authority to explain his alleged negligence, referencing previous complaints against him.
