The minimum prison term for the murderer of Henry Nowak has been increased to 25 years. Vickrum Digwa was sentenced after stabbing the 18-year-old student with a large dagger in Belmont Road, Southampton, on December 3, 2025.

Digwa’s original 21-year sentence was reviewed at the Court of Appeal after being referred by the Attorney General. Judges at the Court of Appeal agreed the original sentence was unduly lenient and refused Digwa permission to appeal against the increased term.

The Lady Chief Justice stated that the original minimum term did not adequately reflect the overall seriousness of the murder. Digwa, who was 22 at the time of the offence, had told police that Henry had attacked and racially abused him. However, the trial judge later found Digwa’s accusations of racism to be untrue. He was initially jailed for life at Southampton Crown Court in June.
