An alleged incident occurred in the Supreme Court where a 71-year-old lawyer, Rakesh Kishore, reportedly attempted to hurl a shoe towards Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai. Security personnel intervened to stop the alleged act.
Concurrently, the Punjab Police have initiated a significant crackdown on social media content. They registered over 100 First Information Reports (FIRs) against various social media handles for disseminating unlawful and objectionable material. According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, this content targeted the CJI and included caste-based vilification, incitement, public mischief, and attempts to disturb peace and public order by exploiting caste and communal sentiments. The posts and videos in question were described as containing casteist and hate-filled expressions, aiming to promote communal disharmony, disrupt public order, and erode respect for judicial institutions.
Furthermore, a YouTuber is currently under scrutiny for remarks made against CJI Gavai. In a separate context, the CJI previously commented on a plea, characterizing it as “publicity interest litigation.”
