The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is set to undertake a significant renovation of the Central Silk Board Junction, a major traffic hub. This initiative was prompted by Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, who has instructed officials to create a permanent development plan.
The plan aims to enhance traffic flow, improve facilities for pedestrians, and develop public spaces. During an inspection, Mr. Gowda also launched the ‘Ward One’ campaign, which will be implemented across 43 wards to upgrade key junctions and local infrastructure. The Silk Board junction, where multiple major road projects converge, experiences heavy daily usage by commuters.
Proposed improvements include developing the area under the flyover into a public space with seating, a throwball court, and exploring table tennis facilities. Additionally, a public toilet and upgraded footpaths are planned. Officials have also been directed to install a steel grid over a stormwater drain and develop a pedestrian walkway alongside it.
During the inspection, the minister addressed issues with sewage entering the stormwater drain and directed officials to plan a new drain to mitigate flooding, coordinating this with ongoing roadwork.
