Delhi's Cloud Seeding Initiative: Operational Delays Persist

Delhi's cloud-seeding experiment, an initiative aimed at generating artificial rain, continues to be on hold, having experienced multiple postponements. Originally planned for July and again anticipated after Diwali, the project's delays are attributed to various factors including monsoon conditions, fluctuating weather, and a current absence of suitable cloud cover, according to reports.

The Delhi government has an agreement with IIT Kanpur for five planned cloud-seeding trials, expected to take place in northwest Delhi. Authorization for these operations is valid between October 1 and November 30, adhering to strict safety, security, and air traffic control guidelines. An aircraft fitted with the necessary cloud-seeding technology is presently positioned in Meerut, under the oversight of a team from IIT Kanpur. Permission for the experiment has been granted under Rule 26(2) of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, specifically authorizing IIT Kanpur's Department of Aerospace Engineering to utilize a Cessna 206-H aircraft (VT-IIT) for the trials.
