On Thursday, November 13, 2025, Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq held a meeting with Art of Living Foundation founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in Srinagar. The discussions centered on the significance of peace, compassion, and inter-faith harmony.
According to a spokesman for Mirwaiz Farooq, both leaders agreed that conditions of injustice and disempowerment contribute to radicalization, which threatens peace. They also concurred that sustained dialogue and mutual understanding are essential for promoting peace and human dignity.
Mirwaiz Farooq reaffirmed his commitment to dialogue as a humane and effective method for addressing issues and resolving differences. He also expressed appreciation for Mr. Shankar’s recent anti-drug outreach in the region and, in reference to Mr. Shankar's planned visit to Srinagar's central jail, emphasized that a compassionate and humane approach should guide efforts for the release of political prisoners and youth.
