Following a qualifying session, several drivers offered their perspectives on their performance and challenges. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri indicated a lack of competitive pace, finishing 0.366 seconds behind pole position, despite initial expectations for the team to contend at the front. He is positioned to start two places ahead of his teammate.
Lando Norris, also from McLaren, attributed the team’s difficulties, which placed him 0.062 seconds behind Piastri, to struggles in bringing their front tyres to the correct operating temperature. He characterized this as a known weakness of their car, leading to understeer, and observed that Mercedes often benefits under such conditions.
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, who outqualified Charles Leclerc for the first time since the British Grand Prix, suggested an improvement in his recent form. While he recorded the fastest time in the initial session, Hamilton commented that Ferrari had not “optimised” their strategy from Q2 onwards. Despite feeling comfortable in the car and driving well, he expressed dissatisfaction with his P6 finish.
