On Saturday, October 11, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stones for two significant fishery projects in Odisha, collectively representing an approximate investment of ₹160 crore.
One of the initiatives is an integrated aqua park at Basantapur in Sambalpur district, with a projected cost of ₹100 crore. This park is slated for development across 95.47 acres of government land, with the central government contributing ₹60 crore and the state government providing the remaining ₹40 crore. Expected to be completed by January 2027, the project aims to foster modern fish farming and establish Sambalpur as a center of excellence in eastern India.
The second project involves the construction of a fish market in Pandara, Bhubaneswar, valued at ₹59.13 crore. This initiative falls under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), with the central government funding ₹30 crore and the state covering the remaining amount. The market is designed to meet the consumer demand for fish in the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack regions.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi provided details regarding the funding allocations and the strategic objectives behind both infrastructure developments.
