GHMC Commences Storm Water Drain Project in Lakdikapul-Nampally Corridor

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated a significant storm water drain project along the Lakdikapul to Nampally stretch in Hyderabad.

The foundation stone for this development was laid on Tuesday by the Minister-in-charge of the Hyderabad district, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi. According to a GHMC statement, the project aims to address the recurring issue of flooding and public inconvenience experienced in the region during monsoon seasons.

This comprehensive storm water drain system, featuring an RCC box drain, will span a total length of 2.72 kilometres. It is designed to channel rainwater from key localities including FTCCI Marg, Red Hills, Devaiah Bagh, Ek Minar Masjid Road, Netaji Nagar, and Nampally Station Road. The project is divided into two main components: a 2.15-kilometre section from New Pragathi Press to Nampally Exhibition Grounds, and a 570-meter section from Chirag Ali Lane to Bombay Bazaar via Nampally Station Road. With an estimated cost of ₹17.93 crore, the infrastructure is projected to manage a total catchment area of 175.13 hectares.

Commuters travelling between Lakdikapul and Nampally via Red Hills may encounter traffic disruptions as a result of the ongoing construction activities.
