Indian government officials are actively encouraging households and various industries to transition from liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to alternative energy sources. This initiative aims to alleviate "pressure on LPG" and address concerns regarding its availability.

For residential consumers, the recommended alternatives include electric cookstoves and piped natural gas (PNG). Industries, particularly those reliant on commercial LPG for operations such as blast furnaces, are being advised to adopt electric furnaces and commercial PNG.

A joint secretary in the petroleum ministry confirmed that steady domestic LPG supply is being maintained through tied-up cargoes, and commercial LPG supply has increased by up to 70%. The official also noted a "comfortable situation" regarding LNG availability. Separately, an additional secretary from the heavy industries ministry stated that the supply gap for commercial LPG affecting auto component manufacturers is not "severe," with ongoing communication with industry bodies. To facilitate this broader energy shift, the government, along with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board and city gas distribution players, is accelerating efforts to enhance the adoption of PNG nationwide.
