The two-day Traffic Summit 2025, organized by the Hyderabad City Security Council and Hyderabad City Police, concluded on September 19 in Hyderabad. Central Road Research Institute scientist Mohan Rao positioned road safety as a societal priority during the event. Discussions focused on leveraging advanced technologies to enhance traffic systems, including artificial intelligence (AI), drone and high-rise camera monitoring, VIP convoy management, and modern signal systems. The Tanla Pulse app is scheduled for integration within the Hyderabad City Police Commissionerate to improve traffic monitoring and public engagement.
A panel discussion on road safety and safe urban infrastructure, moderated by Dr. Mohan Rao, addressed the significance of road design, pedestrian facilities, and the identification of “black spot” locations to reduce fatalities. Pawar of IIT Hyderabad presented research on intersection safety and proposed sensor-based warning systems suitable for Indian traffic conditions. The summit concluded with key takeaways that emphasized updated road design standards, context-specific technology adoption, the implementation of safe infrastructure, prioritizing pedestrians, and fostering shared responsibility among planners, engineers, operators, policymakers, and citizens.
