Recent discussions between officials from India and Canada centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation across several key areas. A Canadian readout indicated that measures to combat transnational repression would continue, and both nations agreed to advance collaboration on security and law enforcement, addressing issues of mutual concern. Economically, India’s Prime Minister Modi expressed a goal of reaching $50 billion in annual trade by 2030, emphasizing that unlocking economic potential would create new investment and employment opportunities. The Canadian side projected that a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) could lead to $70 billion in trade within five years. Further cooperation included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for artificial intelligence development and deployment under the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation Partnership, alongside another MoU focused on critical minerals to strengthen supply chain resilience. Prime Minister Modi also asserted that the progress in ties was underpinned by an "unbreakable trust in democratic values, diversity and humanity," and conveyed a mutual agreement that terrorism, extremism, and radicalization constitute shared, serious challenges for both countries and humanity. The Canadian official, however, did not publicly address the issue of terrorism during the meeting.
