Enumerators in India are undergoing training for the second phase of the Census, focusing on population enumeration. This phase is set to begin in Uttar Pradesh and three other states—Uttarakhand, Goa, and Punjab—on December 1, preceding its nationwide rollout in January 2027.
The upcoming population enumeration will involve asking respondents 40 questions. This is a significant increase from the first phase, the Houselisting Operations (HLO), which required only a few minutes per household. Field trainers are preparing the enumerators for the detailed nature of this task.
Each enumerator is expected to spend approximately 20-25 minutes with each respondent to gather the comprehensive data required for the 40 questions.
