Chancellor John Healey has announced plans to veto new clean energy projects if the national electricity grid cannot handle the generated power. This decision aims to prevent increased costs for consumers.
Healey stated that there is no benefit in constructing power sources that cannot be connected to the grid and would subsequently require payment to be switched off. The Times reported that the editorial noted a past practice of allowing wind farms to connect to the network before necessary national grid upgrades were completed.
