The final vessel of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a 42-boat convoy attempting to breach Israel's 16-year maritime blockade of Gaza, has been intercepted by Israeli forces. The Polish-flagged sailing boat Marinette was observed via a live stream "sailing strong towards Gaza" late Thursday, despite an earlier claim by the Israeli government that the entire flotilla had been halted. The convoy reportedly carried approximately 500 individuals, including parliamentarians, lawyers, and activists, among them Greta Thunberg. Another sailing boat, the Mikeno, also reportedly entered Gaza's territorial waters before being intercepted. Historical context includes previous activist attempts to break the naval blockade, which have involved military intervention, such as the 2010 incident where 10 Turkish activists died during an Israeli commando raid on the Mavi Marmara ship. Some participants in the current flotilla, including Thunberg, have faced prior detention by Israeli authorities for similar attempts to breach the blockade.
