Political activities are increasing in anticipation of the upcoming byelection for the Hiriyur Assembly constituency in Chitradurga district. The vacancy arose due to the death of former Minister D. Sudhakar.
The Chief Minister visited Hiriyur to inaugurate development projects and stated that surveys indicated strong support for the Congress based on development work. He also committed to addressing the issue of reservation for the Golla and Kadu Golla communities, noting previous rejections by the central government.
The BJP has formed a committee to oversee the byelection preparations. Meanwhile, the JD(S) leader and Union Minister has been consulting with party leaders from Hiriyur and surrounding areas to gather input. Both the BJP and JD(S) have indicated that candidate selection will be a joint discussion between the coalition partners.
The JD(S) is reportedly seeking to field its own candidate, citing significant support in Hiriyur and nearby constituencies. Sources suggest that community ties across neighboring taluks could influence the election outcome, emphasizing the need for careful candidate selection.
