A recent event in Heggodu, Shivamogga, highlighted discussions on rural challenges and cultural preservation in Karnataka. Chukki Nanjundaswamy, a leader of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), expressed concern regarding farmer suicides, referencing National Crime Records Bureau reports. She advocated for the establishment of “loan-free villages” to alleviate farmers’ financial burdens, questioned why farmers are uniquely affected by debt, and noted the migration of rural youth to urban centers. Nanjundaswamy also spoke on the challenges faced by agricultural communities following the green revolution and the importance of food safety.

In a related presentation, Hemalatha Jain, a textile expert and educator, detailed her research journey into natural dyes. This work subsequently led her to efforts to revive traditional weaving techniques throughout Karnataka. Jain recounted extensive travels across the state, during which she visited numerous villages and identified 55 previously lost weave patterns.
