The Karnataka State Women’s Commission (KSWC) Chairperson, Dr. Nagalakshmi Chowdhary, has instructed officials to convene women’s gram sabhas in the Sindhanur, Maski, and Manvi taluks. These assemblies are mandated to gather nomadic, semi-nomadic, and former Devadasi women to discuss their challenges and facilitate the submission of reports to the Commission.
This directive followed an interaction session held in Sindhanur, Raichur district, involving nomadic women from the Sindhol community and former Devadasis. During the interaction, participants raised concerns, including elderly women receiving outdated pension rates and the long-standing demand from former Devadasi women for housing and residential plots. The event, which included women from Sindhanur and surrounding areas, was jointly organized by the Women’s Commission, the Women and Child Development Department, taluk administration, taluk panchayat, police department, Anganwadi centres of Sindhanur and Turvihal, and the Indira Gandhi Stree Shakti Sangha.
