Statewide protests, organized by Dalit and Adivasi groups, took place across Kerala on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. These demonstrations called for action regarding the death of BDS student Nithin Raj, which occurred on April 10 at a college in Anjarakandy, Kannur. The protesting groups asserted that the student’s death was linked to caste discrimination experienced during interactions with some faculty members.

The protests led to widespread disruptions, including traffic blockages, suspension of both public and private bus operations, and the closure of shops in districts such as Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram, and Pathanamthitta, impacting numerous commuters. Demonstrators also staged sit-ins at bus terminals, impeded autorickshaws and private vehicles, and attempted to disrupt operations at nationalized banks. Furthermore, they requested that individuals traveling to hospitals be granted free passage upon showing medical records.
