Mohali Housing Project Sparks Political Exchange

A political dispute has emerged in Mohali regarding a housing initiative for low-income families. Former Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu, a senior Congress leader, accused Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of “deliberately obstructing” the construction of houses. These residences are intended for poor families on plots allotted in 2022 during the previous Congress government’s tenure. Sidhu alleged that the MLA was employing “intimidation tactics” against beneficiaries, citing a minor theft incident, and characterized the AAP government as “anti-poor” for hindering the project.

In response, MLA Kulwant Singh dismissed Sidhu’s accusations as “baseless political theatrics” and an attempt to “spread misinformation” to remain relevant. He asserted that he had “no interest in participating in credit wars” and challenged Sidhu to identify any poor families he had assisted with housing during his 15 years as an MLA and minister.
