Following the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election results, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the largest single party. The upcoming mayoral election requires a majority of at least 114 seats. The alliance formed by the BJP, with 89 seats, and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, holding 29 seats, collectively commands 118 seats, thereby exceeding the required majority. Amid concerns over potential shifts in support, corporators from the Shinde-led Shiv Sena have reportedly been accommodated in a Bandra hotel. An unnamed BJP leader acknowledged challenges in maintaining specific seat counts or support levels. Uddhav Thackeray, leader of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray - UBT), reiterated his aspiration for a Shiv Sena (UBT) mayor in Mumbai. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sunil Prabhu attributed the BJP's success to the division within the Shiv Sena, highlighting that the combined strength of both Shiv Sena factions (65 seats for UBT and 29 for Shinde) would have totaled 94 seats, surpassing the BJP's individual tally of 89.
