The Nagrota Assembly constituency in Jammu and Kashmir is slated for a by-election on November 11. The National Conference (NC) has officially named Shamim Begum, a sitting Jammu District Development Council (DDC) member, as its candidate for the upcoming polls. This nomination follows the Congress party's decision to not contest the Nagrota seat, thereby ceding it to its alliance partner, the NC. A spokesperson for the Congress indicated that this strategic move was intended to align with the "larger goal" of defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The BJP has put forward Devyani Rana, daughter of former Nagrota MLA Devender Singh Rana, as its nominee. Devender Singh Rana had previously secured the Nagrota seat with a significant margin. Additionally, Harsh Dev Singh, president of the Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party–India and a former minister, will also contest. These announcements establish a three-way electoral contest for the Nagrota constituency.
