Meenesh C. Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has discussed plans for a “White Revolution 2,” a strategic initiative aimed at advancing India’s dairy sector. This concept involves strengthening dairy cooperatives nationwide and significantly increasing milk procurement to more than 10 crore litres per day over the next four to five years by expanding farmer participation.
The NDDB has initiated programs focused on improving productivity through breeding, health, and nutrition. Shah also identified other challenges, including tackling milk and milk product adulteration and enhancing the share of the organized milk sector. He noted that 60% to 65% of the country’s milk is currently handled by the unorganized sector, and the NDDB aims to increase the organized sector’s share to 70% while also boosting the contribution of value-added products.
India’s dairy exports currently account for 0.5% of the global market. Separately, Chinchurani, who inaugurated the seminar, stated that Kerala has the potential to become India’s largest milk producer and aims to achieve milk self-sufficiency by reducing production costs and improving productivity.
