Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated on Tuesday that India has rejected third-party mediation on bilateral issues, reiterating its position that these matters should be resolved bilaterally. Dar recounted a discussion with a US diplomat, who reportedly confirmed India’s consistent stance on the issue. While Pakistan expressed openness to third-party involvement, Dar acknowledged India’s categorical position. He also emphasized Islamabad’s commitment to fostering friendly relations with all neighboring countries, including India, while asserting that the nation’s sovereignty would not be compromised.
The minister’s comments were made amidst a period of heightened tensions between the two countries, which escalated following an April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. This incident led to Indian retaliatory actions, including Operation Sindoor and the “abeyance” of the Indus Waters Treaty. Dar further characterized Kashmir as an internationally acknowledged dispute, citing UN resolutions.
