The Department of Clinical Hematology and Medical Oncology at PGI, in collaboration with the Department of Hematology, The Max Foundation, Friends of Max, Sahayta, and Sanjeevani, organized a CML Survivor Day event on Sunday at Zakir Hall. This gathering aimed to acknowledge the journey of individuals managing Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), a condition for which PGI currently oversees over 500 patients monthly and maintains a cohort of nearly 5,000 individuals under regular follow-up.
During the event, support services provided to patients were detailed. Noteworthy among these is The Max Foundation’s initiative, which offers free boarding and lodging for up to four days at a Chandigarh facility for patients requiring temporary accommodation. Kashma Sharma, a CML survivor, participated in the event. A representative from the organizing department, Dr. Malhotra, emphasized that advancements in scientific understanding, patient resilience, and collaborative care have collectively transformed CML from a once-fatal diagnosis into a manageable, chronic condition.
