A new art exhibition at VHC gallery in Koregaon Park, Pune, features works by Pune-born Belgium-based artist Monali Meher and Iranian artist Karami. Curated by Yash Vikram, the exhibition is on display until January 10.

The collection explores the dynamics of appearance, occupation, and movement within contested spaces in the 21st century. Themes include the complexities of individual presence and power, and how bodies interact with their environment. Meher’s contributions include performance art pieces, a video documenting the artist rotating a chakki to examine the home as a gendered space, and works that aim to archive traditional tattoos, addressing their potential diminishing significance amid cultural shifts. Another work by Meher offers a camera's perspective on bodies navigating spaces, sometimes highlighting instances of violence. Meanwhile, Karami's photographic series, featuring figures removed from images, delves into themes of memory and the notion that absence can signify presence.
