According to Thai intelligence documents reviewed by The New York Times, Chinese military aircraft conducted multiple flights to Cambodia in June, weeks before a border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand escalated into conflict. This previously unreported shipment involved six flights by Chinese Y-20 transport planes to Sihanoukville, delivering rockets, artillery shells, and mortars in 42 containers. The documents indicate the cargo was stored at the Ream Naval Base, and that Chinese-made ammunition was subsequently moved hundreds of miles north to Cambodia’s contested border with Thailand. A senior Cambodian official, when asked for comment on these intelligence reports, reportedly did not deny many of the basic details regarding the shipment.
