An elephant known as 'Radhakrishnan', translocated to the Kalakkad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) approximately two weeks prior, was discovered deceased in the reserve's Upper Gothaiyar area on November 18, 2025. The elephant had been captured in the Nilgiris region after causing property damage and received treatment for initial injuries before its release in KMTR with a radio collar. The chosen location was noted for its abundant resources and a previous successful elephant translocation. The animal was found with observable bleeding injuries around its trunk and mouth. Forest department sources indicated on November 19, 2025, that the elephant is believed to have slipped on a grassy surface, falling an estimated 25 feet and sustaining a fatal head injury.
