New UK immigration rules will allow partners arriving with an applicant for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) to settle simultaneously, provided they meet all conditions. However, partners who join later must complete the full qualifying residence period before becoming eligible for settlement.
The updated regulations permit eligible couples to combine their incomes to satisfy the minimum income threshold, which will be set at £25,142, double the individual minimum income requirement.
Children under 18 will continue to be able to settle with their parents and will be exempt from income, government debt, English language, and Life in the UK test requirements. They will still be subject to suitability and criminality checks.
Young adults aged 18 to 24 who are financially dependent on their families can also settle with them. While they must meet all mandatory adult requirements, they will not face the individual income requirement. Individuals aged 25 or older at the time their family qualifies for settlement will need to meet independent qualification criteria.
