The University of Madras experienced a three-year delay in the printing and distribution of mark statements and provisional certificates to students from its affiliated colleges. This situation required students seeking to pursue higher education or employment to personally visit the university and provide specific documentation, such as admission or appointment letters.
The prolonged delay was attributed to the university’s financial challenges, which had led its Finance Committee to recommend significant budget cuts earlier in the year. The resolution to this issue commenced last month following the receipt of an additional ₹17.84 crore grant from the State government. A portion of this funding is now being utilized to purchase necessary stationery and print the backlogged mark statements and provisional certificates.
Registrar Rita John emphasized the extensive nature of the task, noting that distributing mark statements to approximately 5.50 lakh students each semester, in addition to a similar number from the Institute of Distance Education, represents a substantial undertaking. The university has confirmed that the printing of certificates for postgraduate students has been completed.
