Mercedes driver George Russell secured pole position during the Singapore Grand Prix qualifying session, posting a time 0.182 seconds faster than Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. McLaren’s championship leader, Oscar Piastri, qualified third, followed by Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli in fourth, and Piastri’s title rival and teammate Lando Norris in fifth. Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc completed the sixth and seventh grid positions.
This pole position marks Russell’s first since the Canadian Grand Prix in June, which he subsequently won, and Mercedes’ first at the Singapore circuit since 2018. The result emerged unexpectedly, as pre-weekend discussions had largely focused on Verstappen’s potential to achieve a third consecutive victory against the McLaren team. Russell established his fastest lap on his initial final qualifying run, despite light contact with the wall at Turn 17, and further improved his time on a subsequent run.
