Electricity bills for households and small businesses across parts of eastern Australian states are anticipated to undergo adjustments starting in July. According to the Australian Energy Regulator's recent final offer for the 2026-27 period, residential customers on default market offers in New South Wales and south-east Queensland could experience price reductions ranging from 3.4% to 10.7%. This regulatory determination applies to an estimated 987,000 households and 139,000 businesses utilizing default offers across four states.

A recent industry survey suggests these forecasted price changes coincide with a notable increase in renewable energy and battery integration within the power grid. The report indicated that renewable energy sources are projected to contribute 43% of Australia’s total power supply throughout 2025, up from 39% in 2024. Despite these trends, the Clean Energy Council has voiced a concern that future progress in renewable energy expansion could be challenged by a reported decline in investment for new wind and solar projects.
