Zoho Corporation has launched Arattai, a free messaging and internet calling platform presented as an Indian alternative to WhatsApp. The app’s name, “Arattai,” is a Tamil word meaning “casual conversation.” It is available for installation on both Android and iPhone devices via their respective app stores and the official Arattai website.
Noteworthy features include a “Meetings” function, which offers video calling capabilities described as comparable to Zoom and Google Meet, and a “Pocket” feature designed for the secure organization of personal content, utilizing end-to-end encryption. The platform currently distinguishes itself by not integrating artificial intelligence tools. While Arattai employs end-to-end encryption for voice and video calls, the article states that plain text messages do not feature full end-to-end encryption, a point of difference from WhatsApp’s security protocols.
