The family of Virginia Giuffre, a key accuser of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has publicly stated that Lord Mandelson should not have held the position of UK Ambassador to the United States. This comment comes as Lord Mandelson recently resigned from a professional role following the publication of emails between him and Epstein.
Lord Mandelson resigned from his role as president of the Great Britain-Russia Association earlier this week. This departure followed the publication by Bloomberg of a cache of emails detailing contacts and a relationship between Lord Mandelson and Epstein, in which the peer reportedly encouraged Epstein to seek an early release from prison.
Mr. Roberts, Virginia Giuffre’s younger brother, described Lord Mandelson’s resignation as a “step in the right direction” but added that it was “not nearly enough.” The family’s comments were made in an interview with the BBC, their first in the UK, which is scheduled for broadcast on “Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.”
Lord Mandelson had previously stated last week that, “perhaps as a gay man,” he neither sought nor was offered introductions to women by Epstein. There is no suggestion that Lord Mandelson ever met Virginia Giuffre.
Virginia Giuffre has alleged that she was abused by Jeffrey Epstein after being introduced to British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell in 2000. At the time, Ms. Giuffre was working as a locker room attendant at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach. Through years of advocacy, she became a prominent figure among Epstein’s accusers.
Neither Downing Street nor Lord Mandelson offered comment when approached regarding the family’s statements. The upcoming BBC interview with Ms. Giuffre’s family is expected to cover their hopes for Virginia’s legacy, as well as discussions surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, Donald Trump, and Prince Andrew.
