Opposition leaders in Haryana have raised concerns regarding the state's financial health, specifically addressing the public debt burden. Leader of Opposition Hooda stated that the current government has increased Haryana's debt to an estimated Rs 5.56 lakh crore. Citing budget documents, Hooda highlighted that internal debt stands at Rs 3,91,435 crore, with an additional Rs 76,250 crore being raised.

He elaborated that annual debt repayment, including principal and interest, totals Rs 65,667 crore, leaving a limited Rs 10,593 crore for other expenditures from new borrowings. Hooda also pointed to specific allocations, noting that education receives 6.2% (Rs 22,914 crore) of the budget, and only 9.7% (Rs 21,756 crore) remains for capital expenditure after repayments and advance payments. He further calculated the per capita debt at over Rs 1.40 lakh for the state's population of 2.80 crore. Senior INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala echoed these concerns, asserting that approximately 30% of the total budget would be consumed by debt and interest repayments.

Both leaders have collectively called for the government to release a white paper detailing the state's complete debt burden.
