Indian Airlines Conclude Airbus A320 Software Upgrades, DGCA Confirms

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India's aviation regulator, has announced the completion of software upgrades on 323 operational Airbus A320 family aircraft operated by Indian carriers. This action addresses a potential flight control issue identified by Airbus, which indicated that intense solar radiation could corrupt data critical to the aircraft's flight control functions.

Initially, 338 aircraft from the fleets of IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express were slated for these software enhancements. Of these, 323 operational aircraft received the upgrades. Six aircraft were undergoing base maintenance, and nine from the Air India fleet were later determined not to require the modifications.

Specifically, IndiGo completed upgrades on all 200 of its operational A320 planes. Air India finished upgrades on 100 operational aircraft, with six remaining under base maintenance and nine exempted. Air India Express concluded upgrades for 23 A320 family aircraft, while two aircraft are currently under base maintenance for redelivery. Globally, Airbus had indicated that more than 6,500 aircraft would require these fixes, contributing to flight cancellations and delays worldwide.
