Multiple international leaders have recently articulated their perspectives and strategies regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing economic pressure on Russia and continued support for Ukraine.
Labour leader Keir Starmer stated that a coalition would work to remove Russian oil and gas from the global market to "choke off funding" for Russia's military actions, asserting that "Ukraine's future is our future." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commended recent sanctions imposed by the United States, suggesting that Russian President Vladimir Putin aims to "divide us."
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen indicated that European financial contributions would strengthen Ukraine's war effort, noting that "significant steps" have been taken this week to target Russia's energy sector. Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof identified Russia as the "only party rejecting a ceasefire" and suggested that escalating pressure on Russia is required to bring Putin to peace discussions. NATO chief Mark Rutte also affirmed that sanctions on Russia are intended to increase pressure on Putin, compelling him to negotiate, and remarked that Putin is "gaining little ground on the battlefield."
