Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed on Wednesday that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are advancing toward the full encirclement of Gaza City. Speaking to reporters, Katz stated that IDF units are currently establishing control over the western portion of the Netzarim Corridor, an area south of Gaza City extending to the coast.
According to the minister, this maneuver aims to tighten the encirclement around Gaza City, necessitating that anyone moving south would pass through IDF checkpoints. Katz characterized this phase as a “last opportunity” for Gaza residents to relocate south, thereby isolating individuals identified as Hamas terrorists within Gaza City. He added that those who remain in the city would largely be considered “terrorists and supporters of terror.”
Katz emphasized the IDF’s preparedness for all possibilities and its commitment to continuing operations until stated objectives are met, which he outlined as the return of all hostages, the disarmament of Hamas, and the ultimate conclusion of the conflict.
