The Kerala Assembly concluded its 14th session on Thursday, one day earlier than initially scheduled by the House’s Business Advisory Committee. During this final day of proceedings, 11 Bills were passed. Among the key legislative actions was the enactment of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Kerala Amendment) Bill, 2025, which aims to permit the resumption of agriculture-related cattle race events such as ‘Maramadi’ and ‘Kaalapoottu.’ This particular bill was added to the legislative agenda and passed on Thursday, despite not being originally slated for consideration.
The day’s legislative activities occurred amidst a boycott by the Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF), who cited concerns related to the ‘Sabarimala gold theft row.’ Other legislation passed on the concluding day included the Guruvayoor Devaswom (Amendment) Act, 2025; the Kerala Single Dwelling Place Protection Bill, 2025; the Kerala Right to Public Service Bill, 2025; the University Laws (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill, 2025; and The Malayalam Language Bill, 2025. The 14th session of the 15th Kerala Assembly, which commenced on September 15 and met for a total of 11 days, saw 21 Bills passed in all.
