Karnataka’s five tiger reserves are preparing for the deployment of newly trained canine squads aimed at enhancing wildlife protection and conservation efforts. A year-long intensive training program for ten dogs and their handlers concluded on December 1 at the Bandipur Tiger Reserve, preparing them for operational roles.
Each of the five reserves will receive two trained canines. These units are intended to complement the Forest Department's field staff by assisting in the detection and tracking of threats, identifying potential suspects, and strengthening overall vigilance. Prabhakaran, Director of Bandipur Tiger Reserve, highlighted the crucial role these squads are expected to play in supporting conservation activities within the state’s sensitive forest landscapes.
