The King's Baton Relay for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled for Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, officially commenced its journey in New Delhi on Tuesday. This traditional event involves a baton, carrying a message from the British monarch, traveling across Commonwealth nations before all batons are united at the Games' opening ceremony on July 23, 2026.
India's specially designed baton, crafted by visual artist Aaquib Wani, features distinct panels inspired by India's flora, its national bird and animal (peacock and elephant), and Indian literature and scripts. The baton was unveiled by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, accompanied by Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha and British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron.
Scotland will host the Commonwealth Games for the fourth time with this upcoming edition, having previously hosted in Edinburgh (1970, 1986) and Glasgow (2014). Following its public display in Delhi from November 12 to 14 at DLF Avenue Mall, the baton is set to travel to Ahmedabad on November 14 for the next segment of the relay.
