Sunder Nursery, a 90-acre renovated park situated adjacent to Humayun’s Tomb in central Delhi’s Nizamuddin, officially opened to the public as a heritage park on February 21, 2018. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prince Aga Khan, and Delhi LG Anil Baijal.
Plans have been announced for the development of a Garden House project within the nursery. This initiative aims to create a 30-acre microhabitat zone designed to reflect Delhi’s historical biodiversity. The zone will feature three distinct ecological sections, including a subtropical area, a local scrub landscape, and a desert environment, collectively housing over 100 regional tree species.
Designed by Delhi-based senior architect Ashok B Lall, the Garden House project will incorporate an indoor learning center. Its objective is to cultivate a “forest within a garden” by integrating numerous plant and tree species sourced from various environments, such as forests, hilly regions, and riverine tracts on the outskirts of Delhi. An arboretum is also slated for future addition, further enhancing opportunities to learn about the city’s natural heritage.
