The Dravida Munitha Kazhagam (DMK), a political party based in Tamil Nadu, is expanding its presence into Idukki, Kerala, following similar efforts by the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). The DMK has established two offices in Munnar and Upputhara and announced its intention to contest in the upcoming local body elections, particularly in Tamil-populated plantation areas. According to DMK Idukki district secretary K.K. Janardhanan, the party's objective is to improve the living conditions of plantation workers. The VCK also plans to contest, reportedly focusing on Tamil and Dalit votes within the plantation sector. Both parties are said to be highlighting issues related to the plantation sector crisis and the living conditions of workers of Tamil origin. The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary Ibrahimkutty Kallar has acknowledged the entry of these parties, noting their affiliation with the INDIA alliance.
