The Telangana government is preparing to appeal to the Supreme Court, seeking the implementation of a 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local self-government institutions across the state. This initiative follows a High Court clarification that permits local body polls to proceed under the previous reservation system, effectively staying the government’s relevant Government Order (G.O.).
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy conducted a meeting on Friday (October 10, 2025) to discuss the High Court’s decision. Attendees included senior political figures such as TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, and Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Sources indicate the Chief Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to the 42% BC reservation. The proposed appeal aims to challenge the High Court’s stay on G.O. 9, with the government planning to present arguments explaining the order’s issuance under special circumstances, following a caste survey conducted in Telangana.
