Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh on Tuesday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in a money laundering case. This investigation is linked to the online betting application 1xBet, which identifies itself as a globally recognized bookmaker. Officials have stated that additional sportspersons, movie actors, and online influencers are expected to be questioned as part of the ongoing probe. The ED is reportedly inquiring if individuals were aware of the legal status of online betting and gaming in India, a sector where the Union government recently enacted legislation to ban real money online gaming. Prior to this ban, market analysis indicated a substantial user base in India for such apps, with the market estimated to be worth over USD 100 billion. The government has also reported blocking 1,524 online betting and gambling platforms between 2022 and June 2025.
