A ceasefire has taken effect in the Gaza Strip, prompting several significant developments. An agreement specifies that Hamas is anticipated to release living hostages within 72 hours. In return, Israel plans to release 250 Palestinians serving long-term sentences in Israeli prisons, alongside 1,700 individuals detained in Gaza during the recent conflict. Simultaneously, the United Nations has received authorization from Israel to scale up humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza, with shipments slated to begin on Sunday.
Regarding the conflict’s future stages, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated in a televised statement that these would entail Hamas disarming and the demilitarization of Gaza. On the ground, thousands of Palestinians, including Abdel Fattah al-Kurdi, have begun returning to their residences in northern Gaza following the ceasefire’s implementation.
In a separate development, the Israeli army confirmed it conducted strikes in Lebanon. Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported these strikes involved Israeli warplanes targeting bulldozer and excavator yards.
