An Italian woman and her fiancé died from acute methanol poisoning in Vietnam, an incident linked to homemade limoncello they had consumed.

The beverage, a gift from the woman’s parents, was later found to contain dangerously high levels of methanol, a toxic alcohol typically used in industrial cleaning products. Following an investigation, Vietnamese authorities in February charged a local barman with “violating regulations on food safety,” alleging he used medical-grade alcohol in the limoncello’s production.

Nine months after the deaths, the parents report a lack of updates on the case. They express their ongoing search for justice and accountability, stating they cannot find closure or lay their children’s ashes to rest until the investigation concludes.
