Typhoon Kalmaegi has resulted in significant fatalities and extensive damage across the Philippines. The storm is reported to have caused at least 114 deaths, with 127 individuals missing and 82 injured. Widespread flooding and devastation were reported, particularly on Cebu island, where 71 deaths were recorded and over 400,000 people were displaced. Following these impacts, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of calamity, referencing both Kalmaegi's effects and the anticipated arrival of another storm, Uwan.
Subsequently, Typhoon Kalmaegi is now moving towards central Vietnam with increasing windspeeds. Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has described the storm as "very abnormal" and urged local officials to prepare with urgency.
