Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recently addressed the 84th Indian Roads Congress (IRC) in Bhubaneswar, advocating for increased innovation and experimentation in road construction.

During his address, Gadkari urged engineers and researchers to embrace new codes, standards, guidelines, and design practices. He highlighted the importance of allowing for new experiments, suggesting that action should only be taken for malafide mistakes, rather than for failed legitimate attempts at innovation within the government system. The Minister stressed that implementing new practices and successful global experiments is crucial for India's advancement.

Gadkari also acknowledged the IRC's nine-decade role as a knowledge platform for road engineering, encouraging its members to align their existing codes and standards with international benchmarks. He emphasized the necessity of continuous research, transparent processes, and swift decision-making for qualitative transformation in road engineering. Furthermore, the Minister reiterated the government's commitment to enhancing road safety through advanced engineering standards, intelligent transport systems, and public awareness initiatives.
